Wall Decal Instructions

With these ELLIE Studio wall decal instructions, you can easily apply your wall decal or arch wall decal yourself.

Our wall decals are made from high quality polymer vinyl with a subtle LINO texture and are self adhesive. With proper preparation and a calm, careful approach, you will achieve a smooth, bubble free result.

Step 1. Preparation

What you will need:

  • A soft cloth or towel
  • Optional: a plastic squeegee or an old bank card
  • Measuring tape and pencil
  • Spirit level or painter’s tape
  • Scissors or a sharp craft knife

Preparing the wall:

  • Make sure the wall is smooth, clean, dry and grease free
  • Our wall decals are made from premium polymer vinyl and adhere better over time
  • Not suitable for rough walls, heavy textures or highly porous surfaces
  • Do not apply wall decals to freshly painted walls. Allow at least 2 weeks of drying time

"A solid, well finished surface ensures the most beautiful result. Light coloured wall decals on dark walls may cause slight show through."

Step 2. Positioning and alignment

  • Decide where you want to place the wall decal or arch wall decal
  • Hold the decal against the wall or measure the position carefully
  • Use a spirit level or painter’s tape to mark the correct height and placement
  • We recommend working with two people: one to hold the decal, one to apply it

Tip: Always start by positioning calmly and carefully. A good start prevents crooked placement.

Step 3. Applying the wall decal

  • Carefully peel away a small section of the backing paper
  • Start at the top left or right corner
  • Attach the top of the decal to the wall
  • Slowly remove the backing paper while smoothing the decal onto the wall
  • Always smooth from the centre outward to avoid air bubbles
  • Use your hands or a soft squeegee

Take your time and work patiently. The more evenly you apply, the cleaner the final result.

Step 4. Pressing and checking

  • Gently press the wall decal firmly using a soft cloth
  • Check that all edges are fully adhered
  • See a small air bubble? Carefully pierce it with a needle and press the air out
  • Leave the wall decal undisturbed for at least 24 hours so the adhesive can fully bond. If needed, gently press again with a soft cloth.

Removing a wall decal

Want to remove your wall decal? Always do this slowly and with care.

  • Lightly warm the decal with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive
  • If your paint layer is delicate or loose, proceed with extra caution
  • Slowly and evenly peel the decal away from the wall
  • Pull at an angle rather than straight outward

Tips & tricks for the best result

  • Apply wall decals at room temperature between 18 and 22°C
  • Avoid drafts and direct sunlight during application
  • Work calmly and without rushing
  • Always use a soft cloth to prevent damage
  • Do not apply to glass fibre wallpaper unless it has first been painted with a smooth coat

Frequently asked questions about applying wall decals

Can I reposition a wall decal?

→ Yes. If the decal has only been applied for a short time (a few minutes), you can carefully peel it back and reposition it. Do this slowly to prevent stretching.

Can I remove the wall decal later?

→ Yes, our wall decals are removable. Keep in mind that the adhesive becomes stronger over time. We recommend warming the decal with a hairdryer and removing it slowly.

I see small air bubbles. What should I do?

→ Small air bubbles often disappear on their own. If they remain, gently pierce them with a needle.

Which surfaces are suitable?

→ Smooth, clean and dry walls. Not suitable for rough or heavily textured surfaces.
