Step 1. Preparation
What you will need:
Wallpaper paste (for example Perfax Ready & Roll), wallpaper roller (or paint roller), wallpaper smoother or spatula, bucket with warm water and a clean cloth, sharp utility knife, scissors and a spirit level or laser level
Preparing the wall:
- Make sure the wall is smooth, clean, dry and grease-free
- Fill holes, sand smooth and remove old wallpaper
- For highly absorbent surfaces such as new plaster or drywall, apply a primer or sealer first
- Ordered dark wallpaper? Paint the wall beforehand in a similar shade to prevent white seams
- Ordered light wallpaper? Make sure the wall is also light in colour. Dark paint or colour differences may show through, especially with lighter or thinner wallpaper types
''The smoother the surface, the more beautiful the final result.''
Step 2. Cutting and arranging
- Cut the wallpaper panels to size and lay them out in the correct order
- Pay close attention to which side is the top and bottom
- Important: the second panel and every following even-numbered panel must always be rotated 180 degrees. This ensures the pattern aligns perfectly
- Roll the panels so the top edge is immediately in hand when applying
Step 3. Pasting and hanging
- Mark a vertical guideline.
Use a spirit level or laser to draw a perfectly vertical line on the wall. This step is essential. If the first panel is not straight, the pattern will never align seamlessly later on. - Apply wallpaper paste evenly to a section of the wall approximately 50–60 cm wide. Use a roller and make sure edges and corners are well covered
- Place the first panel tightly along the guideline and work from top to bottom
- Smooth the panel with a wallpaper spatula, pushing excess paste toward the edges
- Trim excess paper at the top and bottom with a sharp knife
- Place the following panels edge to edge without overlapping
- Regularly check that the pattern aligns neatly and that the panels remain straight
- Remove excess paste immediately with a slightly damp cloth for a clean, seamless finish
Step 4. Drying
Allow the wallpaper to dry thoroughly. Remove any remaining paste gently with a soft, damp cloth.

Frequently asked questions about applying wallpaper
How do I make sure the first panel is straight?
→ Always draw a vertical guideline using a spirit level or laser. This is the most important step for a flawless result.
My pattern does not align properly – what should I do?
→ Check that the first panel is perfectly vertical and that every second panel has been rotated 180 degrees.
I see light seams, how can I fix this?
→ Once dry, carefully touch them up with a small brush and wall paint in the background colour.
I have air bubbles under the wallpaper
→ Gently press them outward immediately after applying. Small air bubbles often disappear on their own while drying.
What is the best room temperature for wallpapering?
→ Keep the room at a constant temperature between 18 and 22°C and avoid drafts and direct sunlight.
Can I reuse this wallpaper later?
→ No, non-woven wallpaper is not reusable. The advantage is that it can later be removed easily without damaging the wall.
Final tip
→ Take your time and work calmly. The more care you put into hanging the wallpaper, the more beautiful the final result will be.
